HAMPTON - - Police in Hampton are anxious to catch the man who was
like a loose cannon on the main highway between Sussex and Hampton on
the weekend. On his motorcycle, he tore away from police, left the scene
of an accident he caused and reached speeds of over 200 kilometres an
hour. The Hampton RCMP was led on the wild chase when officers
attempted to stop the motorcycle on Highway 1 just after 6:15 p.m.
Friday evening. The motorcycle was heading down the road eastbound at
excessive speeds doing a wheelie, said Cpl. Pat Cole, and gained police
attention. When police activated their emergency equipment, the
male driver of the motorcycle increased his speed and sped away down the
busy highway.Roadblocks were set up farther down the road and
the bike was clocked in excess of 160 kilometres per hour, Cole said.
The motorcycle continued past the road block and caused an accident
farther down the road, then continued on at speeds in excess of 200
kilometres per hour. There were no injuries in the accident.Cole
explained the motorcycle then went past another roadblock and exited
into the town of Sussex. The driver is described as being about
five-foot-eight-inches to five-foot-nine-inches tall, around 200 pounds
with spiky dark hair and a pencil-style beard. He was wearing a green
T-shirt, blue jeans and a dark helmet. He also has distinctive
tribal-style tattoos on his arms, police say.Police continue to
look for the driver and ask anyone with information to call the Hampton
RCMP at 832-5566 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
